Patients of different age groups have to deal with unpleasant back pain. As a rule, discomfort in the body is a manifestation of serious diseases or the result of strong muscle tension. In most cases, pathology occurs due to structural changes in the joints of the vertebral body, soft tissues or nerve endings. The symptom of pain is also a result of improper functioning of internal organs.
Etiology of back pain
By localization of pain in the dorsal part of the body, it is possible to determine the nature of the disturbance in the body's work. With damaged bone tissue and the development of intervertebral hernia, as well as damage to the organs of the abdominal cavity, discomfort appears in the lower part. If the back pain is observed in the upper area, it is a sign of aortic diseases, inflammatory processes of the respiratory organs and the formation of tumors in the chest area. Unpleasant sensations on the entire surface of the back, accompanied by fever, nausea, indigestion, require immediate medical attention, as they indicate serious health problems.
The main causes of back pain are related to such diseases:
- Osteomyelitis, which affects the bone marrow;
- oncological neoplasms;
- Hernia occurrence in intervertebral hernia;
- scoliosis;
- cartilage damage;
- Fibromyalgia.
Often, back pain is not related to a change in the structure of the spine. In this case, pelvic bleeding or compression of nerve endings in the chest area may be observed. Discomfort between the shoulder blades can be associated with peptic ulcer or arthritis. Pain that radiates to both sides at the same time is the first sign of appendicitis. Unpleasant sensations can appear after prolonged exposure to low temperatures, repeated lifting of heavy objects, strong coughing or being in an uncomfortable position. Back pain often occurs after a bone fracture, regardless of their location.
Features of back pain treatment
In case of unbearable pain, patients are given first aid. For this, you can put a cold compress on the problem area, take painkillers and exclude physical activity. Today, chondroprotectors are actively used in the treatment of back pain. Their injection form ensures maximum bioavailability of the drug and speed of action, which stops the destruction of cartilage tissues and relieves inflammation. The course of treatment may include:
- warming ointments;
- drugs that eliminate tissue spasm;
- Physiotherapy procedures;
- therapeutic massages;
- Acupuncture.
If necessary, it is prescribed to wear a special corset, which reduces the load on the waist and spine. In some cases, surgical interventions involving the installation of intervertebral prostheses are performed.
